Freedom Social Projects has been providing accommodation for men in recovery from substance use problems since mid 2004. This is a small project operating from a shared house in the centre of Barnstaple.
Despite the background of clients this tends to be a very successful environment for men to move on in their lives and therefore we have very little turnover of new residents.
Each resident is given a license agreement and subject to satisfactory compliance of the house rules is able to stay in our accommodation for a maximum of 2 years.
Graham, our live in support worker says “Our aim is to provide secure semi-supported housing for men recovering from addiction.
Most new residents tend to be referred from local rehab centre’s as we see this accommodation as more second stage than first stage. The house provides a family atmosphere where residents can grow and maintain progress towards independent living and integration back into society.
Residents will receive practical help, friendship, mentoring and support and be assisted in every day living. If requested Prayer ministry is made available to help when working through issues in their lives.
Residents are encouraged to spend their time in meaningful activities such as training, education, volunteering and also taking up the support of other relevant organizations as appropriate.
